Programs

The University of Maryland is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive and respectful campus environment. Our prevention and awareness programs aim to educate, engage and empower all community members, including students, staff and faculty, to recognize, prevent and respond to hazing.

Training Opportunities

Online Anti-Hazing Prevention Training Modules for Students, Faculty and Staff

To strengthen hazing prevention and education across campus, the University provides mandatory and recommended training resources for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty and staff.

In addition to the University’s annual campus-wide notification, which includes information about the UMD hazing policy, the risks and consequences of hazing, and how to report suspected incidents, online hazing prevention training courses are available.

For Students

Students may access the Hazing Awareness and Prevention Course through the Vector Solutions Dashboard (LMS). This course deepens students’ understanding of hazing, helps them recognize its signs, and empowers them to intervene or seek help when necessary.

The Office of Student Conduct is also ready to assist students and student organizations with a presentation on hazing prevention upon request. This can be done virtually or in person. Please complete the request form and allow three to five business days for confirmation of the request.

For Faculty & Staff

This Hazing Prevention Training for faculty, staff and administrators explains what hazing is, explores why hazing occurs, and offers guidance on how to identify and respond to hazing incidents. UMD faculty and staff may access the Hazing Awareness and Prevention course on the Vector Solutions Dashboard (LMS).

Additionally, the University of Maryland Police Department provides specific training to all individuals identified as Campus Security Authorities, which includes information on their responsibilities to report hazing.

All members of the campus community are encouraged to take advantage of these resources to help ensure a safe and supportive university experience for all.
